France Sep 2013, Day three

Day three, Tue 10th Sep

Usual nightly pain routine for me, I may as well stop mentioning it from now on, as it was the same every single night.

It was a much better day weather wise and as I didn't want to drive today, we set off for a walk into the village.   Of course there was also the problem that, I may not be able to walk too far, we would just have to see how it went.

We called into reception to book the Paris bus trip for Thursday, only to find that it was now fully booked, we should have booked yesterday when we enquired about it.   Thankfully there was another bus going on the Friday as well, so we booked that.

The walk to the small town square is over half a mile but it was also half a mile from our mobile home to the campsite gate. So we had already walked a mile when we arrived at the town square of Vic-Sur-Aisne, here the nice weather changed and it started to rain a little so we popped into the tabac.

By the time we had a beer / wine, it had stopped raining, we looked in the couple of shops that are there and got sandwiches from bread shop, Dot got a mini apple pasty for afters.

We set of down the hill following the road to the river (also following the walk we did with Mick and Bren a few years earlier). We crossed over the river and walked along to the lock gates and footbride where was crossed back over.  I had, had enought walking by now and we headed to a bar for a sit down.

River Aisne, France 2013.

We ended up where we had been with Dave and Claire last time we were there, only the strange little bar we had used then, was now closed.   So we used the other bar that was down by the river and it was warm enough to sit outside again.  Mick made a new friend, ugly thing and the girls discovered a very nice cherry wheat beer.

When the sun moved behind some buildings we went inside for another beer, it seemed that the price of beer in bars in France had dropped, even from earlier in the year. Drinks prices has been high for a few years now but we were pleasantly surprised a couple of times this trip.  There was a Beer I had not had and a draught fruit beer that the girls liked very much.

We called back into the tabac on the way back to the site, for a rest after walking up the hill from the river. I think Mick got talking to the local nutter or at least local drunk but I think Mick upset him and he stopped talking.

Day Two or Day Four
